Oh 2013, how fast you went by! It was a very mixed year, filled with intense highs and lows. But I never regret the passing of a year, I just value all the lessons it provides π
And with tradition, it’s time to review last year’s resolutions, and create a few new ones for 2014!
REVIEW
Focus
Interestingly, this was very much the case for my daily working life. I feel like at work I’ve had an enormously successful year in my day job, but clearly less successful in my online life. So it feels like a bit of a half hearted win, though still a win none the less. Online work is fulfilling and I love it, but let’s be honest, it doesn’t pay the bills.
Lifestyle Blogging
I don’t feel like I did anymore than I had the previous year, I did find travel to be a bigger factor in my life this year than it was last, not that I’m complaining! I’d love to travel more π
Be patient, Seek balance
Hmmm, I’m going to consider this unfulfilled. Based on the first resolution, I really didn’t achieve a great deal of balance in my life. It was pretty one sided, and is something I need to work harder on.
Shop your Stash / Resourceful Purchasing
Can I say half a win? Maybe a quarter? I’ve been pretty bad for the majority of this year, but after my USA trip I’ve found myself being quite disciplined in my purchases. I tend to ask myself, “Do you already have something like this in your collection?”, and the answer has almost always been yes! And I dutifully close the window and move along. As a result my bank account has been thanking me π
Exercise
Yeah, like last and the year before last, this is a total fail. I really need to take a hike or something to make myself feel marginally better…
RESOLUTIONS
I’m keeping it simple for 2014, I feel excited and ambitious for the new year, but similarly I want to keep the goals simple and not over plan like I usually do.
Seek Opportunities
I feel for more people this could mean saying yes to more things or going out and networking. However this year, for me this means using my time in a more resourceful way. When I go out with friends, view it as an opportunity to enrich my life, view it as a chance to build content and as a possibility to relax and embrace quieter moments.
Schedule Up and Down Time
I did in fact burn out twice in 2013 and those weren’t pretty moments. Mostly it involved many tears and intense desire to give up. This year I want to make sure I schedule time where all I do is work, and time where all I do is relax, and hopefully give myself a better sense of balance and well being.
Travel
I probably already do travel more than the average bear, for as long as I can remember I’ve always visited another country every year, but I don’t feel like I’ve explored enough of my own home. I do have a couple of international trips planned for next year, but I’d like to plan a few more local trips. Up to the mountains during Winter or even visit our more remote local beaches in the warmer months to experience my home land, and let’s be honest! Think of all the photography / photo shoot opportunities π
Did you guys manage to meet some or all of your resolutions from last year? What are your resolutions for 2014?
