“What did you do on the weekend?” or “Got any plans this evening?”
Conventional questions I get asked at work all the time, whether out of sincerity or to fill the conversational void, they get asked. And my never failed response is, “oh nothing much”.
And yet we all know this is far from the case. In fact if you took a glance at my schedule, you’ll see every night I have something planned. And more often than not has to do with either cosplay, this blog or working on my portfolio.
Lookbooks take up a lot of my time, not just because I like to shoot in advanced, but because I tend to re-shoot them several times before I have a set of photos I feel are good enough to be put on this blog. But how exactly do you tell someone, who most likely isn’t that interested in your evening to begin with “I’m going to put on a lot of makeup, sit in my bedroom and take photos of myself”. Hmm… suddenly, “Going to work on my blog this evening” doesn’t sound as social inept anymore!
Yes, I’ve always wondered how dedicated bloggers with full time jobs outside of blogging even introduce the topic of their “other life”. Do you guys even bring it up? Or are you like me, juuust keep it to myself and not mention it at all?
P.S: Props to me, I finally linked Fables on my FaceBook page, where I’m linked with all my co-workers. So… step 1 right? π

Here’s how a bunch of serious bloggers tell their family and friends – read the comments π

Personally, I have a t-shirt that says “I’m blogging this” π That kinda breaks the ice! XD
Celina says
Lol! I think I need a tshirt that reads that too~ You know, I literally subscribed to that blog about 30 seconds before I got your comment. It’s fate!

It’s an awesome blog π Darren Rowse, the guy who runs it, also runs the other blog I write for http://digital-photography-school.com and is the publisher of my book http://bit.ly/photonuts
He also happens to live 10 minutes drive from me π It’s a small world indeed!
Celina says
I didn’t realised you blogged at that site, I LOVE it! Not surprised tho =D How proud am I that one of the biggest and best photography site is run by Aussies?
Neil Creek says
It’s been too long since I’ve written for DPS as I’ve been concentrating on writing the next book, but you can see the archive of my posts here: http://digital-photography-school.com/author/neilcreek
And yeah, I feel so proud to be writing for a fellow Aussie for one of the best photography resources online π

Most of my friends know I blog, some people diss me for it but I don’t care. I also have friends who blog. But my family doesn’t know. I don’t think they’d get it, lol.
Celina says
Wow people diss you for it!? Ugh, what losers π Yes, my family is the same hehe.

I tend to not say “blog” and just say “website” for people who I think won’t have a concept of things. I think if I can’t be bothered with a long explanation I just say “work” >_< Most of my friends blog as well though, and pretty much everyone I know in Melbourne I've met via the web so everyone has been fairly understanding with my schedule. My Mum has actually started stalking me online though which is sweet!
Celina says
That’s so sweet about your mum! π It’s great when family gathers round and supports us in the things we love π
