Melbourne Spring Fashion Week starts tomorrow with Shop-Hop, and I’m very excited as I’ll have the opportunity to attend a number of shows this year. However shows tend to be in the evenings on the weekdays, which means going straight after work! So proper planning in the mornings is needed to ensure I get the most out of my evening 🙂 Here are my top 9 favourite things I’ll be toting with me into work. Hopefully those attending any sort of after work event will find them useful 🙂
Trench coat
Not only can they instantly dress up any look, but a warm coat means you can be a little freer with what you wear. Too cold to wear that beautiful summer dress? Not with a nice coat it won’t be 🙂 (btw you don’t need a Burberry coat… though it’s always been a dream of mine to eventually own one 🙂 )
Umbrella
This is Melbourne, an umbrella is essential at all times! Unless frizzy hair and running mascara is your thing.
Pashmina
What I love about pashminas is their versatility. You can wear them as a traditional scarf with a coat, or indoors they turn into fantastic shawls in case it’s a little chilly near the runway.
Strappy Heels / Boots
When I’m not sure how long I will have to stand or walk for, but I know I want to still look good, I’ll go for boots or strappy heels. They give me the added height I need, whilst still being comfortable to wear. However if lack of height isn’t an issue for you, then flats may be a great alternative.
Jewellery
In some offices it can be a little difficult to dress up for an evening event, and it’s not always possible to bring a change of clothes in. This is where accessories can prove handy, they can turn a standard black office dress into a chic cute outfit, suitable for the runway~
Clutch
An overly large bag at a fashion show can look crowded and even disorganised, so if you can, leave all your work gear at the office (you’ll be back there tomorrow after all), and work a fashionable clutch into your look.
Statement Lipstick
A bold lipstick is a great way to completely change your look, I did this recently at work for the blogger’s luncheon. My makeup was essentially the same, all I did was wear a deep red lip colour and people constantly commented on how “made up” I looked.
Powder / Blotting paper
Whether you suffer from oily skin or not, overly shiny skin doesn’t look flattering on anyone! I personally prefer a powder because I feel it gives me a little more control over the distribution, but blotting papers can work just as well.
Phone charger
If you’re organised enough to charge your phone at work before leaving then you may not need this, however if that’s not possible your phone may be struggling a little by the time the show rolls around. I never go anywhere without my portable phone charger, it’s saved my skin on more than one occasion.
Camera
Okay so maybe this is specifically more a “blogger” item, but ensuring I capture the best photos I can to share with you guys is so important to me! That usually means I need to tote around a pretty large DSLR, especially since most of the events will take place at night. But I love what I do, and I love sharing my experiences with all of you, so a camera is usually never far from my fingertips 😉
That’s my entire list! Hope you found it useful 🙂 Are any of you planning to visit Melbourne Spring Fashion Week? If so, what are you planning to wear? 😀
