Rebecca Minkoff Mini Hudson Moto Bag Review

If you watched my Once Upon a December 2013 series, you’ll know I ran into a bit of a dilemma during a visit to Ikea where I left my everyday Prada Saffiano Tote sitting on a shelf as I tried to lift some furniture (I didn’t use the shoulder strap before, but I sure do now!). I blame my carelessness, but also the fact that I need to physically hold my bag everywhere I go, it gets heavy and I tend to need to put it down if my arm gets too sore (I’m that girl who has everything in her bag, it weights around 5kg, no joke the MBBE girls weighted it….).

Introduce the “need” for a smaller across the body bag that I could physically keep on me at all times without weighting me down. I didn’t want to spend a fortune as I have a number of trips planned for this year, and it needed to be durable, whilst also looking polished enough to feature in various OOTD posts (cause I’m not great at switching up my bags as much as I should). Enter Rebecca Minkoff!

The sad fact about Rebecca Minkoff is I don’t believe they are sold in Australia, though they are readily available online. Which means every time I order a bag from her, I’m taking a leap of faith since I can’t try on the bags before buying. Fortunately, I’ve been very lucky so far, and I ended up with the Mini Husdon Moto in Beige which I LOVE. And I thought I’d do a mini review for you guys in case anyone else was interested 🙂

The bag comes with three main compartments. There are two major sections directly under the first flap, one which contains a small open pocket you could either throw in small business cards or hair pins. Not big enough for a phone (on in my case the iPhone 5s). The two compartments are large enough to hold a number of smaller items, but not wide enough for instance to hold an iPad Mini or an A5 notebook. A6 fits perfectly though, and I did manage to squeeze in a few essentials. It is certainly not big enough to hold the things I would normally need day to day.

After the first two compartments, there is a third smaller pocket in the front that is covered by an additional flap. It’s a pretty flat pocket and can only really hold items which are quite flat themselves. It could barely fit my phone, so I use it mostly to store receipts or blotting paper.

Despite the look of the bag, the signature clasp in front is really more for show than anything else. Whilst it can provide added security to the bag (so I recommend using it when moving through crowds), each of the flaps have magnetic closures anyways, which are quite secure and is only an issue if you flip the bag upside down.

The structure of the bag is pretty rigid, definitely not as “slouchy” as the typical MAC or Mini MAC bags from Rebecca Minkoff. I’ve found it so far to be pretty durable, and if you like the bag, it can double as a clutch if you fold the straps into one of the compartments.

All in all, I really love this bag! I do wish it was a tad larger as I’d love to be able to carry around my iPad Mini or even have space for my main camera, but I do love how light weight and free I feel when carrying this around! Hardly feels like I’m carrying anything at all~
