Westman Atelier not so recently released a new concealer as part of their range and spoiler alert, I really love it! It comes in a beautiful small glass bottle and the consistency is beautifully creamy. The range comes in 16 different shades and is said to pair well with the various foundations that are offered by Westman Atelier (which I personally haven’t tried and can’t vouch for but if that is something anyone is interested to learn more about without spending their money let me know and I’m happy to be the guinea pig). The Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer is available from Mecca for $80AUD, or Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman or Sephora for $48USD.
Application & Coverage
The concealer comes with a pretty standard doe foot applicator which I’m always a fan of (why fix something that isn’t broken), which makes it easy to apply the product right towards the inner corner of your eyes. Personally when I apply concealer nowadays (isn’t always the case when on camera but this is more for when I’m just doing my daily routine) I like to put a small dot towards the inner corner of my eyes and one closer to the outer corner of my eyes and then blend them out, I find it gives me great coverage without the heaviness I usually get when I apply the concealer all over the areas beneath my eyes. This concealer would work great for other areas of your face, especially those who have any other blemishes or discoloration they want to conceal. Fortunately for me most of the time my skin is pretty agreeable and I tend to only use concealer under my eyes for my darker circles.
Coverage is very buildable, but I find even just a small amount of this goes a long way so you really don’t need to be apply a huge amount as this is a medium to full coverage concealer. Which is fantastic given the amount you get compared to other concealers isn’t the highest. If I compare it to Tarte Shape Tape, which comes with 10ml of product, the Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer only comes with 6ml, despite being a lot more expensive. I guess that’s the price you pay for luxury brands.
Either way this little bottle should last you a good while, so long as you aren’t the sort of person who loves that more glamourous baked look which tends to use up a lot more product that those going for a natural look. The thing I love about using so little is that is gives my skin a very natural look, it doesn’t act like a mask on my face, it still allows my natural skin tone to come through.
I do want to make a small note about the “skincare” factor of this concealer, as it’s literally in the name and is a selling point Westman Atelier tote. The claim is that it is infused with a serum that helps hydrate, firm and brighten your skin. I believe the specific skincare ingredients are hyaluronic acid and peptides which are both know to help hydrate and plump up your skin. Having said that, skincare in makeup in my opinion is really more a “marketing” point rather than something that tangibly works. And maybe that’s because I’m already a skincare girlie and so skincare in my makeup is pointless, but based on my own limited understanding the amount of skincare in makeup products simply isn’t enough to give you the benefit they claim, which is why the recommendation is still to invest in a good skincare routine that you can depend on and then any benefits that comes from makeup is a bonus if it happens to have any impact on your skin. There is of course no downside from what I can see in having skincare in your makeup though, if anything at least we know for certain this product shouldn’t be drying out your skin.
Wear
Wear for concealer is generally always good just by the sheer nature of where it sits in the makeup routine and physically where it sits on the face. Like I’m not constantly touching my under eye area to wear the product off, but I am constantly eating and drinking to wear off lipstick for example. Still by the end of the day, this product holds true to it’s word. It lasts all day, I don’t really see much creasing so long as my skin is well hydrated before hand (if I’ve had a rough day I can see some creasing and wear).
Overall
As I mentioned at the start of this post, I love this concealer. I mostly love it for it’s creamy consistency, the intense coverage and how well such a small amount of product blends so seamlessly. Is it worth $80AUD? You can 100% get something very similar for far less, even the swatch comparison examples are good options, but I’m a sucker for new high end makeup and so once my money is spent I like to enjoy it to the fullest. If you love the brand and just want something that feels very wearable and natural, then I think this is a beautiful pick.
