Since testing out the Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer a couple weeks ago I started to become intrigued by what the other products the Westman Atelier line had to offer. Stick contour sticks is something I use almost daily, so when I discovered that the brand did in fact carry their own line of contour sticks, I knew I had to give it a shot! The Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick is available from Mecca or Cult Beauty for $80AUD or Sephora USA, Bergdorf Goodman or Nordstrom for $48USD.
Application
When it comes to contour sticks there are a few different ways you can apply the product. You can either apply it directly to the skin where you wish to create the contour and then blend it out with your fingers, brush or sponge. You can apply some of the product to your fingers and then gently pat it down on your skin, or you can do it the way I most prefer which is to apply the product directly to a brush first and then apply to your face. I prefer this technique most because I feel it gives the most subtle and seamless application, it allows me to build the contour up if I want something sharper or keep it very subdued if I just want a hint of a contour (which is my go to when I’m not taking pictures for the blog or filming for youtube).
Either way I found I achieved better results if I used a natural fiber brush as opposed to a synthetic brush but the difference was pretty minimal so I’d recommend use what you already have access to.
Wear
In terms of wear, because of the cool toned nature of the formula, I feel like it wears beautifully. Funnily enough when I went to do the swatch I couldn’t tell the difference between this contour stick, and the ones from Rare Beauty and Kevyn Aucoin (I forgot to test it against my Dior Forever Skin Contour Stick, but I’d be willing to bet the lightest shade is very comparable. Safe to say if you have any of the contour sticks already mentioned, you won’t need to buy this one as I found the formula, colour and wear very similar between all of them.
Packaging & Product
One thing I thought was a really nice touch is that the cap is actually magnetized, so very easy to place the cap back on. It’s the small details to me that really stand out. I also wanted to make a quick note about the amount of product you get here, which is a pretty low 6g, probably the least amount of product in comparison to the other brands mentioned above. That said, it would still take me a long time to get through this much product given how light a hand I am when applying my contour but given the price point I think it’s worth mentioning.
Overall
I can’t fault Westman Atelier on the quality of their products that I’ve tried so far, I’ve loved everything and really enjoyed using them. You can certainly find cheaper alternatives (like the Rare Beauty version) that are just as good in terms of application and wear, but if you love a good luxe brand you won’t be disappointed by this one.
