Where: Make Up For Ever, Sephora or FACES
One of the many brands I was beyond excited to try when in Hong Kong was Makeup Forever, I’m no stranger to the brand, but being able to stand at their counter and swatch their products was a luxury we don’t experience in Australia.
The Smoky Palette is a new limited edition product recently released by Makeup Forever, designed to create a multitude of smoky eye looks. I swatched it at the counter in FACES, had a couple of reservations because of the pigmentation, but decided to purchase it anyways. It was Makeup Forever after all.
It’s a good overall palette, slim and compact. The eyeshadow texture is very soft, almost buttery (but quite) and the brushes provided are very soft and can actually be used on the palette.
As you can see below, the swatches are decent, but not what I expected from Makeup Forever. Maybe it’s just me, but for a company that markets itself towards makeup artistry, I was expected highly pigmented shadows. You can see that the Copper and Neutral shades are actually quite pigmented, but the darker shades were a real let down.
You really need to pack on the darker shades for them to appear on the eye lids. Below I created a smoky eye using the green shadow, but when worn on the lid, it appears a lot more gray than green. It’s most likely the way it was photographed, but admittedly even in real life the green colour wasn’t that rich to begin with.
It’s a nice palette, nice to have, not a must. If you’re looking for a palette to create a smoky eye with, I’d recommend looking else where, no doubt for a cheaper price too. I can see myself using up the neutral shades over time (they are lovely), but probably not the darker shades.

I agree, those smokey shades look awful and I’d expect MUCH more from MUFE! π The actual colours look nice though, even if the pigmentation is lacking. And I like that the packaging so closely resembles Kat Von D’s on the inside ;]
Celina says
Ooh! I’ve never tried Kat Von D palettes before, but now that you mention it they do look very similar π

The palette itself looks gorgeous! Too bad the darker shades dont look that good swatched
Celina says
It is rather disappointing π At least the neutrals will get used up XD

That’s a shame, maybe with a dark eyeliner underneath them as a base they might look much darker. This is a palette I’ve been interested in but I’d like the darker shades to be a lot more pigmented. Thanks for the review!
Celina says
That’s an idea, I should give that a shot and see if that makes a difference, thanks love! π

Celina says
Thank you π Can’t wait to meet you at ABBW! I fear the amount of money I may spend whilst there :O

Thanks for the review. I’ve been eyeing this palette ever since it came out. The colors are beautiful but it’s a shame the darker shades lack pigmentation. I expected better from MUFE. I think I’ll pass.

I was very interested in getting this palette so thanks for the review, it is a shame about the pigment of the darker shades so I might give this a miss. I really like the eye look you have done π
