A while ago I did a review of one of Coastal Scents‘ latest palettes called the Prism 88 Palette. Thought it was high time I reviewed their second latest palette entitled, Mirage :).
Generally, I’m quite fond of this palette for more wearable to neutral eyes. It reminds me a little of the 88 Metal Mania released by Coastal Scents almost a year ago, only with more earth tones and a very good mixture of mattes, shimmer, velvet, satin and frost finishes. Very good Winter palette π
An overall comment I have is that the velvet and satin finishes are amazing, their pigmentation is wonderful! The frosts were average and the mattes were generally disappointing, very hard to get any pigmentation at all. I experienced fall out for a number of the shadows, but nothing tapping the brush and avoid over whirling can’t fix π
Unfortunately in the post one of the shadows were shattered π Too bad too cause it was really a lovely shade! And if I had watched Klaire’s tutorial on pressing powders earlier, I’d have managed to save it too π
You can check out the swatches I did of the entire palette below, starting from the upper left hand corner π
Hope you enjoyed the swatches, like all Coastal Scents palettes, this is a real mixed bags in terms of quality shadows. But would be either great for a makeup artist’s kit, or travel.

I feel like they should’ve named this this Earth palette or something, all the colours just scream ‘earthy’ to me, especially the row of gorgeous greens. π
Celina says
Totally agree! Somehow “Mirage” doesn’t seem to be a very good fit!
Michelle says
Wow, thanks for taking the time to swatch these! (:
Celina says
My pleasure! Hopefully they were useful π

What a stunning palette, too bad about the colour pay off though. I’m torn as to whether to pick it up or not. I already have 2 palettes that I rarely use hehe so might just hold off.
Celina says
I reckon unless you’re obsessive like me, there isn’t much point if you already have two other palettes π

I like the colors in this palette far more than the 88 Shimmer or Warm, both of which I own and never use. They are equally disappointing, really. The swatches you did of this particular palette are really nice. Am somewhat regretting not buying this one before, but after my previous palette experiences with Coastal Scents, I just thought fergitaboutit. I did, however, just recently order the Fall Festival palette at 40% off after seeing killer swatches from that set, along with some matte Hot Pots which were seriously discounted, and am waiting for everything to be delivered. Really hoping that these ones don’t disappoint me like all the previous ones I bought have, as well as the Hot Pots, otherwise this will be my last order from Coastal Scents as far as palettes go. I find that a lot of their loose mineral eye shadows are of far higher quality than their pressed shadows, actually. I have quite a few and they are super pigmented, creamy soft, and foil beautifully, with the exception of the odd crappy one. The loose mineral mattes aren’t good, however. I really seriously need more high quality matte shadows as most I own are shimmer, pearl, frost, or metallic.
Am seriously debating on whether or not I should get the Mirage palette now. It has beautiful blues, greens and browns, and not too many identical highlight shades like the other palettes have, although your comment about the mattes not being up to snuff concerns me. Decisions decisions……will wait til my latest order arrives and see how the quality is with those…..
Celina says
I would def wait for your order to come through first and see how you go. I believe coastal scent palettes to be good given what you pay for, but if I need intense colours I’d always always go for pigments. The only other brand I know of that I can confidently say are good quality and pigmented as Inglot eye shadows, very soft and great colour pay off BUT in Australia they got for $8 per colour ($4.5US in America). So yeah, quite a bit pricer. Good luck with your decision π

wow, the way you explained and viewed the swatches is just great! thank you so much for all the effort π
I wanted to ask you, which one of these palettes should I get, Metal mania, warm palette or mirage ? cuz I want to order the original one as well, cuz I like to do some dramatic looks with strong colours, but I need colours that are a bit toned down for college everyday, and I have noticed that the warm palette has a lot of similar colours, knowing my skin tone is warm skin tone, and am my skin colour is between being tanned and being a lil brown lol, its not olive , so I don’t know how to classify it :p but am MAC NC 42 so there, that might help :P.. nys I wanted to know which one of the three would be better for me to choose, since I already have the 28 NEUTRAL PALETTE ?! please help π
could you do like a small comparison swatches?
agian, thank you so much, I wish you best of luck π
Celina says
Hmmm, honestly if you are trying to be practical, I reckon you should be set the way you are. Your existing neutral palete would be enough for everyday, and the original palette would be for more colour. Def don’t get the warm, it’s just me of the same. Mirage and metals are more earth toned palettes, mirage having slightly more variety than metal, so depends what you prefer. Hope that helps!
Summer says
Thank you so much Celina , that was very helpful, I really appreciate your quick reply π
u see am not trying to be practical, I just don’t want to end up getting similar palettes with only 2 or 3 shades different, cuz it happened with me a lot before :$
from reading about metal mania, I realized that its shimmery, so is it that shimmery, not to be used in mornings?! celina am this confused because, I want a palette that would complete this “equation” for me { Neutral palette+original+??!! =All colors} lol
am asking for too much right? π nys thats why we are lucky to have such kind and helpful ppl like your self to advice us… thank you.
Celina says
My pleasure lovely! I think shimmery is fine to be used, totally depends on what you like to wear. However as a general rule, I prefer shimmery colours on the lid and matte colours in the crease so that the depth is more apparent. Hmm… I peeersonally prefer Metal Mania, because I’m a bit of a neutral field and I love the earthy / purple tones, I find them more wearable. Mirage also has a lot of earth tones, but has a lot of greens as well, which are nice. But I don’t want to push you down either one since I don’t know you personally and don’t know what your tastes are like etc. Could you get both? ;D
You are always welcome to ask away π I will do my best to answer!
Summer says
seriously… you are the BEST! π
thank u, is not enough any more :$
I really appreciate your advice, that was very helpful, and I decided to get the metal mania π with your advice about how to use shimmery colours, this palette should be enough for me, but I’ll keep you updated.
I wish you all the happiness and success π
Celina says
My pleasure π Do keep me updated!! π
Summer says

I love how you present your looks in a different approach than the rest of the youtubers, well done, I wish you bess of luck π
Celina says
Thank you Summer, you’re a gorgeous person and I really appreciate the lovely feedback π Thanks for making my evening!
Yani says
Hi celina!
I have one very quick question…
For a beginner, which is better to use: the CS warm palette or the 88 mirage palette?
I love neutral shades but I also like to mix it up with some neutral colors. I am just so confused with these two. And I can only get one.
Celina says
Hi Yani! I would def recommend the mirage palette if you want neutral with a bit of variation, it will give you the option to try different types of smokey eyes, plus still being able to do neutral eyes! Hope that helps π
Yani says
wow! thanks so much Celina!
Yup, Im def going to get the mirage palette now.
thanks for all your helpful advice π
Celina says
Pleasure <3 π
Stella says
