If you’ve been following me for a while now you’ll know that for virtually all my Book of Fable chapters I’ve used the same face primer, MAC’s Prep + Prime – Skin Base Visage. The reason I used it was because quite frankly, it was there. I needed something to help create a smoother base for my makeup (my moisturisers are often too sticky and don’t absorb quick enough) as well as keep it from fading. MAC’s face primer is great for keeping my makeup in tact for longer, but it was never very good at creating a nice smooth base.
Thankfully Benefit was kind enough to send me a tube of their POREfessional to try out, and I love it! After I apply my moisturiser, I put this on top and it leaves me with a very smooth and matte finish.
It’s not very clear from the photos but the right half of my face has the POREfessional on, and the left doesn’t. In person the difference is very clear as the POREfessional conceals all the shine on my face created by the moisturiser. On top of that it helps my foundation go on much easier and smoother, as well as helping it last longer throughout the day.
However one thing I really love about this primer is that if you just want a very light coverage, it can be used completely on its own. If you look carefully at my cheeks, you’ll see on the right side that the redness is a little less noticeable than on the left. It’s still visible, but much softer, so perfect for a very natural look that looks like you’re not wearing any makeup.
I’ve included a zoomed in version to make it clearer, it almost looks like my right cheek has been “airbrushed” a little, but trust me, I haven’t retouched these photos at all! It’s 100% makeup 😀
As for reducing the size of your pores, I’ve heard lots of other bloggers say it does. Personally I didn’t notice any difference, but for all the other qualities I mentioned above I know I will be keeping this as a permanent item in my personal makeup collection.
You can purchase this for $30US from Benefit Cosmetics (the packaging has been updated since I received this tube) or $53AU from Myer or Adore Beauty.

It definitely reduced the size of my pores, but it doesn’t work well with my skin for some reason. It tends to ball up. Sigh. A shame because I did love the feel of it and the reduction in my pores. Funny how products work differently for everyone.

Oh wow! It is funny how the same product can work different for each person! I get that ball up problem with some products that contain sunscreen!
