These are some tips I personally follow, they may not be for everyone but I hope I can help someone who may be sitting in the same boat as me 🙂
Sunscreen should be your best friend, use at least SPF 30+ (though I prefer 50+), even in the winter. Or if you are lazy like me, I try to use moisturisers with high SPF levels in them.
Right now I use Clinique’s Super Defense SPF 25 (on to my 2nd tub), it’s not exactly as high as I would like it to be but since I spend 90% of my days indoors (without windows, tragic I know) so isn’t a huge concern of mine. If I know I’ll be outdoors, you can be sure I’ll be throwing on heavier duty sunscreens, such as Chanel’s UV Essential Sunscreen SPF 50.
Unfortunately I haven’t found a sunscreen that doesn’t leave me feeling greasy. (Any recommendations?) Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheet Dry-Touch Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 applies dry, but my skin quickly feels greasy in under an hour 🙁
Soft pinks, corals and peaches will compliment your skin. My favourite combinations are coral / soft pink cheeks. For lips, my favourite is staining my lips, which is when I take some colour to my fingers and rub it into my lips, colour is more subtle and takes longer to wear off. Try this with a medium to slightly dark pink colour.
Define your eyes. Having such dark hair and light skin can be such a strong contrast that it may cause your eyes to almost go unnoticed. A dark eyeliner and mascara should do the trick to get your eyes to pop.
If you have smaller eyes, avoid lining your waterline as it will make your eyes appear even smaller. Be adventurous, you don’t always need to use black, try out dark browns, blues, purples or even greens! Colours similar to Savvy by DB’s Luxury Liners I reviewed a while back are a good idea.
Mascara is a must, it completely opens up your eyes. If you can, coat both your upper and lower lashes. And don’t be afraid to give individual false lashes a whirl, they make a world of difference!
For an evening look, try a brown / bronze smokey eye instead of the traditional black. It’ll look less harsh on your light skin tone if you are going for something a bit more subtle. But if you are feeling bold and want something dramatic, don’t be afraid to go all out, I certainly am not 😉

I have fair hair and eyes so this doesn’t apply to me 100%, but I just wanted to echo you on thepoint of sunscreen: so important! I’ve gotten back into the habit of wearing it every day! I still haven’t found a non-oily one, but Neutrogena’s ultra sheer dry-touch sunblock is pretty good. I use 85spf cos I’m ridiculously pale. ^^;

Woah! I didn’t even know 85spf existed!? Does Neutrogena comes in SPF 85 in the states? Or is it a different brand? I want to try~~
Catherine says
Yep, it’s neutrogena brand! Good luck finding it, it’s great!

Olay has one, a moisturiser I think its call healthy defence, I use the sensitive version. In a white bottle with a yellow lid. 30+ and never leaves your skin greasy. I’m going back to it after I finish my loreal one. I live in Australia and I’m one step away from albino with dark hair so sunscreen is an absolute dailey essential rain or shine. Besides forget expensive creams and treatments if you start young its the best defence against aging 🙂
Celina says
Totally agree, prevention / defence is key 😀

Hmmm… I reckon using a light dusting of bronzer would def help to give your face some “colour” and dimension, don’t forgot blush as well. If you use bronzer around the sides of your forehead, hollows of your cheeks and lightly across your jawline, that should help. And a light pink blush to your cheekbones to make you look a little flushed. But go very light with everything and slowly build on it, and be sure to step back from your mirror to keep checking how you look over all 🙂 Hope that helps!
