As a beauty blogger, the “daily” makeup I use is constantly changing, which has to be the case if I want to give proper reviews on each of products you see here. But believe it or not I still have a set of makeup that I’d call my “usuals”, which I always use when I’m not testing anything or when I’m in a rush. Makeup I know works for me. You probably saw most of it back when I showed you my neutrals in my UNII Palette a little while ago.
Well, I wanted to talk about a specific eye shadow that I absolutely loathe and love at the same time, and that’s MAC’s Eyeshadow in Wedge.
I love it because it gives the perfect “warmth” to the eyes. Very neutral and subtle, it’s buildable from a very soft look to the base of a more smokey look. And it blends surprisingly well.
I can’t stand it because the powder is like a rock! I have to swirl my brush for an insufferable amount of time just to get half an application. Yes half! This means to get one full application that I’m happy with I need to swirl my brush twice for ONE eye, so in total four. That takes a solid 5-7 minutes to apply this shadow and it drives me absolutely insane.
I am very very tempted to crush it up and re-press it, wondering whether that will make it more pigmented upon application. Worst still is I have this eye shadow twice, I have no idea how that happened, it’s the only MAC shadow I own two of, so that’s one of the reasons I’m trying to use it daily (must use it up!).
Everyday I get annoyed at how hard it is to extract pigmentation from it, but after applying my makeup, I smile and admire how beautiful the colour is.
I’m very VERY tempted to throw it out if and when I find an exact dupe, because I’m sure no matter the brand, it will be easier to apply than this.
Shadow rant over! Anyone got products they love / hate?

Oh how frustrating! I hate it when something like this happens. So far I haven’t found a product that frustrates me that much, but I feel you!
Celina says
Very! Sooo tempted to throw it out atm ๐

Even I own eye shadow from MAC which is in the same condition . I scraped the irritating hardened grayish surface on it but it didn’t help much:(
Celina says
Same!! I have the same problem with MAC’s Mineralised Skinfinish Natural in Light as well! I ahve to scrap the top everyday! I want to use it up asap and then never ever buy it again >_<

OMG me too with the MSF! But I keep most of my everyday stuff in the bathroom, so I though it was to do with the moist environment… I thought it was just the price to pay! Oh well, I barely ever need powder now with Diorskin Forever, so I don’t stress about it anymore.
Sefie says
Crushing and re-pressing might be the way to go. I accidentally broke some UD shadows when I was de-panning them, and after pressing them, they all look much brighter and more pigmented. In fact, I have problems with fall out instead of with mashing my brushes.
Celina says
Oooh! Okay, I may try this then! Must…. finish….
SilhouetteScreams says
That’s funny, because I’ve never had the same problem with my Wedge! Plumage is a goddamn rock though. >__<
Celina says
Whooa, maybe mine is a dud! I feel like random MAC products pull this rock stuff on me ๐
Yvonne says
That’s weird! I have Wedge as well and it is very soft and easy to apply. It may be because yours has been depotted?
Celina says
Man, you’re the second person to tell me that! Maybe mine is a dud ๐ Mine came just as a pan, I didn’t depot it myself. *sigh*
Lilit says
That’s very annoying when it happens! Have you tried either scraping the top layer off or maybe scoring it (with a sharp knife do a criss cross pattern on it), that might help with the pigmentation. Here’s a post I’d read on someone’s blog before, might help, as it’s a lovely colour. http://www.makeupsavvy.co.uk/2011/02/refreshing-baked-products.html
Celina says
Thanks so much for the link!! I used to do that, but only now and then to loosen up the powder, now I do it every time I want to use the powder and I don’t have any issues anymore, actually now my wedge is too dark so I need to apply with a lighter hand XD

I love my Wedge! It’s been nothing but a dream to work with. Definitely my HG brown!
I’ve read somewhere that if you expose your eyeshadow to moisture, it will cause the powder to become rock solid. I’ve noticed that when I put a slightly damp brush on either an eyeshadow or blush powder (even if the brush came in contact with my foundation), the product would turn out exactly like the photo you posted last. Lol, I hoped this helped!
Celina says
I’m not really sure why my Wedge it like this, I store all my makeup in my computer / makeup room, so no moisture, but I think I know why my powder is becoming hard now because my face tends to be oily ๐ Thanks for the news tho! I’ll just keep breaking it up ๐
Catherine says
Maybe it’s just faulty product? ๐ฎ Is there any way you could exchange it for a new, less rock-hard one? That really stinks, the color is lovely though!
Celina says
Thanks! Unfortunately no, I’ve had it for ages now, I’m only using it a lot now to try and finish it XD

I’m not sure if it was reading the blog but I can SEE the difficult texture in the picture. I really can! I feel this way about my Sheen Supreme in Gotta Dash. For some reason it gets really globby but I love the color so much D:
Celina says
Thanks! Glad someone else can see it too, I don’t think I have that shade, but I feel your pain ๐
