Years ago when I was still in university, I remember befriending this beautiful girl in my class who had the most amazing lashes. I admired them for months until I finally asked her what mascara she used. Diorshow mascara! So I’ve always pictured her lashes when I think of the Dior show mascara, and while I don’t think my lashes are nearly as naturally lovely as hers were, I still think this is a really stunning all rounder mascara. The Dior Show 24 Buildable Volume Mascara as available from Sephora Australia for $63AUD or Nordstrom, Sephora USA and Neiman Marcus for $33USD.
The Dior Show 24h Buildable Volume Mascara comes in three shades, Black, Blue and Brown. When I was younger I would be up to try some of the other colours, but for me I love the intensify of a solid black mascara so I always go for Black now. First thing you’ll notice is not only how long the wand is (which I find makes it easier to use), but how decently sized the brush itself is which is amazing at holding enough product to coat your lashes without having to re-dip for more product. Something I try to avoid as I know constantly extracting and inserting the wand is what ultimately dries out the product and reduces it’s shelf life.
Worth noting is that the brush is a bristle rather than rubber, which usually for me tends to give lashes a more natural wispy look, exactly what I think I achieved with this mascara. I found it really easy to work with, very easy to apply to my lashes and would build the product up as the name suggests. I wouldn’t wait too long for each coat to dry though as you run the risk of your lashes becoming very clumpy instead.
Even though the name indicates this formula is great for volume, I didn’t find that to be the case. I actually felt that this was a really good “all rounder” mascara, where it gives me a “my lashes but better” look. For those who are less familiar with makeup, it almost looks like I’m not wearing any mascara at all and that they are just naturally long and thick. Some of the other mascara I love and use tend to give a more “fake lash” look which I also love, just depends on the need of the day.
One thing to note is that this mascara is not very forgiving of any type of moisture. I know it’s not waterproof, but even some non-waterproof mascaras are about to tolerate some level of moisture whether that’s perspiration from the day or light tears. This mascara will start to leave light stains below your eyes if you shed a few tears (most of my tears these days is just from being tired thanks for being in the newborn phase)
Overall I really do love this mascara as I feel it’s been the best luxury brand I’d tried so far to give me a lovely natural look. I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase just because there are just so many new mascaras to try entering the market every month but I will definitely pick a tube up if I happen upon it during a sale.
