The Dior Rouge Dior Forever Lipstick in 215 Desire is a beautiful soft nude pink matte shade that I think can come off very flattering so long as the correct lip prep is done first. It’s often exciting to review the latest and greatest releases (and if you have the funds that isn’t hard at all given the number of beauty launches that are constantly happening) however I love taking the time to review some older classics as I think there are still plenty of people who are looking for a few good staples in their collection and might do a quick google to get a second opinion. So these types of posts which you will likely see more of are for those people ๐ Specifically I’ll be reviewing the shade 215 Desire. The Dior Rouge Dior Forever Lipstick is available at Sephora USA for $47USD or from Sephora Australia for $69AUD.
Application
This is well and truly a matte shade, so if you aren’t a fan of mattes you will want to give this a miss. I’m personally not the biggest fan of mattes but I still love to have a few shades in my collection because of how long lasting they are! Sometimes you just need something that you can trust will stay put for longer than a few hours. However, if you’re anything like me you really need to prep your lips. And by prep I mean exfoliate and moisturise, let your lip balm sink in a little bit (don’t apply right away it usually just slips right off and doesn’t pick up any pigment if I do this) and then apply the lipstick. You’ll find that in the application photo below I did none of these things, particularly because I think it’s nice to see what matte lipsticks are like when you don’t prep but I also forgot to prep before taking the photo. For future posts I’ll make sure to take two photos, with and without prep.
Long Lasting
Whilst application can be a little more involved than a more moisturising lipstick, the lasting power is much better. It’s not going to survive a very creamy pasta dish, but I find my lipstick generally lasts me till around after lunch if I’ve applied it in the morning. It easily survives any drinks I consume, snacks, and to be honest if I’m having a simple sandwich for lunch it will experience some wear but generally still be there by the end of the day. Where as my more moisturising lipsticks tend to fade the second anything touches my lips, like my cup of tea in the morning ๐
Highly recommend a matte lipstick if you generally want something to last throughout the day, but don’t expect perfection. Bring your lip balm and lipstick with you, as you’ll need to touch up if you want that flawless look throughout the day.
Overall
Like I said, mattes aren’t generally my thing, but I want to keep some in my collection for the variety. So if I had to go for a matte, this is a really lovely one to have! I really love how the colour looks on me and once I’ve prepped it applies really beautifully.
