The Dior Backstage Eye Palette range is the perfect set of wearable eyeshadows, the series comes in three different shades that you can select based on your personal preference or skin tone. Each palette comes with a range of matte, pearlescent, metallic, holographic and glittery shades which makes them a fantastic all round palette for any occasion and the slim size makes it perfect for travel. The palettes allows for a light makeup look to a heavier evening look. The Dior Backstage Eye Palette is available from Sephora Australia and David Jones for $96AUD, or Dior and Sephora USA for $52USD.
This particular series comes in three different shades:
001 Nude Essentials
002 Smoky Essentials
003 Warm Essentials
Even though I almost always gravitate towards the nude shades, I decided to go with the Smoky palette this time round because I found that the shades in the Nude palette were too warm for me, and I tend to (atleast I think so) look better with cooler shades with the Smoky palette has.
Right off the bat I could already tell that the eyeshadow usability in this palette is significantly different to the typical 5 eyeshadow palettes that Dior releases. I found these a lot easier to work with both based on texture and colour story. I find the 5 eyeshadow palettes really more little pieces of art than makeup that is truly practical, where as true to the origins of the Backstage makeup range (makeup intended to be used in the Dior runway shows) this was a much more viable everyday palette for me.
Pigmentation was certainly on the creamier end, and I found each of the shadows generally blended out really well. Personal preference only, I kinda wish the colour story had a few more lighter shades instead of so many darker shades since I can already see myself burning through the top three shades before even making a dent on the other six, but that could be just a me thing.
In terms of wear, I didn’t find it much different to the other eyeshadow palettes that Dior releases, for me longevity of eyeshadow often comes down to the primer being used and how oily someone’s eye lids generally are. I do love that because this palette is so small, it’s very easy to pack in a purse for any on the go touch ups or to take the look into the evening after work if you’re planning on staying out or going to dinner (such was my life pre-babies!)
Overall
Whilst the colour story wasn’t a total hint for me personally, I really love this palette based on it’s usability and size. I really wished that Dior would come out with more shades, maybe one with a ton of lighter neutral shades would be ideal for me. If you’re looking for something practical from Dior then I would highly recommend this palette.
