Chanel recently released a new range of beautiful Cream to Powder blushes called Joues Contraste Intense blush in five different shades. Chanel claims they have an ultra fine and velvety texture that can be applied directly to the cheeks using your fingers, where the colour is buildable from a soft blush to intense shade. The Chanel Joues Contraste Intense Blush can be purchased online for $89AUD or $52AUD.
I was very torn as to whether to pick up all five shades or go with just the softer shades, in the end given the price point I went with the three lighter shades but now in retrospect after trying these I wish I had picked up the other two because I really enjoyed them~ If I end up picking up the other two shades, I’ll likely update this blog post instead of release a new one!
Shade Range & Texture
As mentioned above, Chanel Joues Contraste Intense blushes was released in five different shades that hopefully covers light to medium to deep skin tones (I say hopefully because I personally have a light skin tone and have no way to test these on deeper skin tones)
- Beige Eclatant – A warm toned beige
- Rose Ardent – A rosey pink
- Rose Radiant – A dusty rose pink coral
- Rouge Franc – A bright orange red
- Grenat Profond – A deep red maroon
I ended up picking up Beige Eclatant, Rose Ardent and Rose Radiant. I love the two rose shades, they looked amazing on my skin tone and was extremely easy to use. However I struggled a lot with Beige Eclatant, it barely showed up on my skin and I had to go in multiple times to get it to show. And even with a heavy hand I could barely get a soft flush in real life, on film and photo I don’t think it’s even that visible. I know I’m not the lightest skin tones so this shade was likely meant for people with very fair skin tones.
If you were expecting these blushes to have the texture of a true creme blush then you’ll be surprised. The texture is almost like velvety soft putty instead, mouldable and very soft to the touch but not a wet cream.
Application
Thanks to the ultra velvety soft texture of this product, application of this blush really changes how it appears on the skin. My default with most blush applications is to go in with a natural bristle brush first, however I felt that a synthetic brush worked a lot better at picking up the product. However for Beige Eclatant I didn’t have much success with either brush type, and had to go in with my fingers. Chanel recommends that you do use your fingers to apply their blushes, so I can understand why the results may appear a little underwhelming if you use a brush, it’s just my personal preference as I like to keep my hands relatively clean when applying makeup.
I will say that all shades blended like a dream, so seamless and smooth and for the deeper shades the colour is very buildable. It’s one of the things I really loved about these blushes, it gives the cheeks such a beautiful blush and is extremely easy to work with. What true luxury makeup should be like!
Wear
No surprises, the deeper the shade, the longer it lasts. That’s just how it generally works, I could certainly see some wear after around the 8 hour mark, but only because I know what the blush looked like with a fresh application. I think you could easily wear it during the day, and take it through to the evening without anyone blinking an eye. If needed, you could easily touch these up lightly by the 8 hr mark if you want to freshen up your makeup.
Final Thoughts
All in all, besides Beige Eclatant not showing much pigment on my skin tone, I truly loved the these blushes! The wear and application process was so easy and it made my skin look amazing afterwards that I even got compliments from coworkers through video call about how glowy my skin was! In the realm of luxury makeup, I would highly recommend these 🙂
