It’s a brand new year, with new possibilities and a chance to start fresh! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share with you some of my key resolutions for 2017, and a few goals I met in 2016 that I’d like to continue meeting in 2017 🙂 If reading isn’t your thing, then scroll to the bottom of this post for a video version 🙂
RESOLUTIONS
1. Regular content
One of the major downfalls I faced in 2016 was lack of content creation. I managed to barely keep it together on my planner channel, but I let not only my main channel, but blog and social media accounts suffer greatly. I have a milion and one reasons for this, but ultimately I think lack of organisation and focus was my biggest issue.
For 2017 I want to fix this to the best of my ability, whether that’s a schedule of once a week or once a month. I simply want to find a schedule that I can stick to that won’t overwhlem me.
2. Invest in me
Usually when people talk about investments, it’s easy to automatically assume financal investment. And while that’s certainly a passion area of mine, in this context I mean more personal investment. Whether that be picking up a new language, taking a course, attending a conference or just picking up a new skill set. Yes, the resolution is very vague and I’ve only made it that way because I’m still not 100% certain which direction to take.
I will say however, that my day job is and has always been an area of passion for myself to some degree. During the day I work in the IT industry, where as many of you would know, the world is forever evolving and changing. I certainly know that for 2017 I want to make it a goal to better invest in my career.
Ultimately I’m hoping that in 2017 I focus and invest in opportunities, concepts and people that bring long term value to my life.
3. Walk off the beaten path
I feel like this resolution comes up ever year, and every year I realise that I’ve made maybe a tiny bit of progress. But fundamentally it’s still an area I struggle with. I have a tendency to let the voices affect me more than I should, when really the only voice that matters is my own.
Fortunately I do have a tight network of friends and family that often just tell me to listen to my own voice, but there are certainly those in my life who aren’t as good as listening and I’ve come to realise that my focus needs to me on myself and the positive influences in my life.
4. Perspective
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know for certain that a large majority of people can be often become very focused on their personal issues and lose context and perspective. And I am certainly guilty of that. The reality is, my life is wonderful, I have my health which is more than what a lot of people can say. And so at the end of the day, I know the majority of the issues I face are petty in the grand scheme of things. I certainly want to focus on having better overall perspective.
RECAP
1. Quality time with loved ones
If there is one thing in my life I do a lot of and have zero regrets over is spending time with the people I love most. Family, friends and pets that mean the world to me. I can honestly say when I look back at my time spend, I can hand on heart say “time well spent”.
2. Do what you love
Whether that’s with my main job, side jobs or hobbies, I want to keep on ensuring that there is always a level of passion for what I do. Passion gives me purpose and feeds my own sense of happiness.
3. Travel
Travel is my passion, and fortunately for me, Tobias is just as passionate if not more so than me! We’ve made a promise to each other to visit atleast one new country every year whilst we can still travel and I know it’s one we won’t broke anytime soon! The only difference is I really want to invest more time to documenting our experiences, both on this blog and our shared channel.
