I don’t always feel comfortable wearing loud shades, but when I do I tend to seek out a good red! I think it suits my complexion / hair better, having lighter skin and very dark hair it feels like a great complementarily shade. So I’ve been reading a bunch of reviews and decided to take the plunge with YSL’s Rouge Pure Couture range with Le Rouge ($55AUD / $36USD). I’d seen a couple of bloggers rave over how great the formulation was and decided despite the high price point for a lipstick it would be a good investment.
Wow!
Is this my kind of red or what? The colour is so pigmented that I feel a bit safer applying this with a brush the first couple times (now I’m totally fine with strange from the bullet so long as I have a mirror). The pigmentation is crazy! So bright, bold and it really stands out.
Pigmentation aside, let’s talk about the formula. I typically gravitate towards lines that are highly moisturising and hydrating because I suffer from dry lips and lipstick on cracked lips is not a good look. However usually the problem with these sorts of lipsticks is how sheer the pigmentation is. This was not the case with Rouge Pure Couture, it leaves my lips feeling hydrated and smooth (not as much as a lip balm would, but about half way there).
And the smell, the smell! It’s a beautiful sweet fig scent, I love it~ Scent for lipsticks are so important for me because you’re applying directly to your lips! You have to like the scent!
I think it’s safe to say that I’ve found my signature red, it’s gorgeous. I personally feel that it suits me (if you think otherwise let me know as gently as possible 😉 ) and even though I’m not a gold person (silver /white gold for me please!) I love the luxe packaging~
You can pick one out for yourself at Sephora, Nordstrom, David Jones, Neiman Marcus
