YSL’s 5 Color Couture Palette ($98AUD / $60USD) range is one I’ve been eyeing for quite some time now, and is certainly nothing new to the makeup world. But after taking the plunge with YSL’s Couture Variation Ten Color Expert Eye Palette, I felt safe to give other YSL eyeshadow palette a go and am glad I did.
I decided to test out Saharienne which contains five neutral / nude shimmery eyeshadows.
- Peach shimmer
- Yellow toned white highlighter
- Deep chocolate brown semi-shimmer
- Medium brown shimmer
- Gray taupe shimmer
If you’re looking for matte shades then I’d look elsewhere as all five shades contain shimmer. According to YSL some of the other palettes contain matte shades so certainly feel free to take a look at those. For me, Saharienne was spot on 🙂 I’ve started incorporating shimmer shades into my daily routine so this palette is right up my alley (even though I’m not the best utilising my makeup collection during stressful times!)
The YSL 5 Color Couture Palette shadows are not only very pigmented, but have a beautiful creamy consistency that blends amazingly well on the lids (I can’t help but feel I type these same words out many times for most eyeshadow palettes I feature here, but it’s so true!)
While I don’t personally use sponge tip applicators, these come with two if you’re keen. However the one thing I really do love about this palette were the shapes of the pans. Based on the shape, it helps give a strong indication as to which shade should be use for which part of your eye and helps you pull together a number of looks (three according to YSL).
For example, the peach shimmer shade is the largest pan, indicating you will use a lot of this and likely all over the lid up to the brow bone. The taupe shade is a reasonable size, and is recommended for just all over the lid. The lightest shade is great for your inner corner and as a brow bone highlight. Medium brown shade for outer corner of your eyes and the middle shade being the smallest pan is ideal of outer corner or lining your eyes. It’s a great guide without having it literally written out for you or one a piece of paper that would be a hassle to carry with you.
I’m loving this palette, though I don’t think I would pick up another one unless the shades really spoke to me. Nothing wrong with this palette, just more that the shades suit me so perfectly I don’t see the need to add more to my collection (unless we’re talking neutrals…)
You can pick up either Saharienne or any other shades from Nordstrom, Sephora, Neiman Marcus, David Jones.
