I’m pretty sure it’s public knowledge that Lancôme’s Hypnose Mascara is my all-time favourite mascara ever. It’s one of the few mascaras where I actually get compliments on my lashes from friends and family. I never quite believe it when other bloggers say a particular products brings in a ton of random compliments till I used this mascara and realised its true!
So when I saw Lancôme’s latest mascara called Lancôme Grandiose Mascara pop up online, I knew I had to try it. You have to admit that the packaging alone was just so pretty and intriguing that it makes you want to test it out.
Whilst we’re on the topic of packaging, let’s stay there. It’s certainly unique, and visually it’s really quite beautiful. The tube looks a little like a small glass perfume bottle (it’s plastic btw), and the wand is curved just like vines. It’s really a work of art in my opinion, but similarly it present some challenge when it comes to functionality. After a while I got used to it, but it does take a bit of playing with to understand you essentially need to twist the wand back into the tube for it to fit.
But to be fair, I actually do think having the wand twist the way it does makes it easier for me to apply the mascara. It helps you really get into the inner corners and lift your lashes from directions a straight wand wouldn’t be able to.
As for the product itself, I feel like this is a thicker version of Hypnose, which can be a little challenging if you’re someone who already finds Hypnose to be on the thicker end. I feel inclined to think that this would work well with shorter lashes, because I had to do quite a bit of rework to separate my lashes to prevent them from clumping up together. I can’t imagine how that would be for someone with naturally very long lashes. At the end of the day however, I do like the results. My take is that the mascara is much more about volume than it is about length, so it’s pretty subjective in terms of who I’d recommend this to.
So if you’re a fan of Hypnose, but want something even more volumising then I think this would be a good one to try. I’m not 100% sure if I would repurchase this, I have a feeling the “sell” of this mascara is more about the unique packaging than the formula (though the formula is far from terrible).
If you’re interested, it is a bit more expensive than the traditional Hypnose, but worth a shot if you love Hypnose and have a bit of extra cash. I picked it up online for $32USD. I know they retail in Australia now, likely for $50AU+ at Myer and David Jones.
