Better late than never, I remembered the By Terry Ombre Blackstar being heavily featured online by some of the UK beauty bloggers I followed and of course I just had to try it out for myself. Other bloggers are the worst influence on me in terms of money… Luckily this was around the time I visited the USA and I made sure to pick them up while I was in New York 🙂
These are essentially eye shadow cream sticks, that you can either apply directly from the bullet, or with your fingers or with a brush. I tried all three methods and can concluded that I prefer first applying directly from the bullet, then using either a brush or my fingers to blend and smooth it out.
The formula is certainly very creamy, which makes application from the bullet possible! I’ve tried plenty of cream eye shadow sticks that were far too dry to apply direct from the tube, instead it would just pull on my eye lids 🙁
Personally I think the lighter to medium colours would be the most popular, as they are the easier to just throw on as a wash of colour over the lids and blend out. The darker shades tend to work better as a smokey liner, but maybe my lids are too small? I found the bullet side too big for the liner space and had to use a brush instead if I wanted that effect. Though I’ve seen many girls use these are smokey liners so it could just be me.
In terms of wear, what I love is that you don’t need to set these with a powder at all, again another con that many eyeshadow sticks have. So I can definitely see why these sticks are so popular in the blogsphere 🙂 Quick and easy!
However this is By Terry we’re talking about and that brand doesn’t come cheap (even though I really want to pick up more shades now…). During my travels I picked this up for $43USD a stick. I know Mecca Cosmetica stock By Terry, but their website has unfortunately been unavailable for some time now so I can’t check to see if they stock this particular product, if you know, please leave a comment below 🙂

The mecca website was recently revamped, maybe thats why u couldn’t get on it.
i just looked and the blackstar sticks are on for $56 (and thats already discounted too)
both mecca and kit have lowered their prices recently (only a bit tho), probably in anticipation of sephoras entry to the Aus beauty market.
