If I was completely honest, I’d have to admit that before Benefit approached me, the first and last time I ever had my brows professional waxed was well over 10 years ago. It wasn’t that the experience was traumatic, I’d call it a mixture of time consuming plus having a general shyness towards people. (I mean, I haven’t had my hair cut professionally for close to 5-6 years now, but I’m determined to break that streak sometime in 2014! Even if only for a trim!)
As a result, I’ve relied heavily on online tutorials and the many different stencils you can purchase, all of which never worked for me because I generally prefer thicker brows and my shape is just not as “standardised” as the stencils are.
Benefit recently invited me to try out their Brow Bar at Chadstone, and with the holiday season pretty much here I thought it was time to give my brows a proper make over.
Admittedly I was quite an experience and it did make me realised how much I was missing out on by stubbornly choosing to always go DIY for everything. Having someone else look at your face and give you their opinions can really open up a world of different options.
In my case I was very fortunate and Jessica my lovely Brow Specialist was able to confirm that I was doing a good job at maintaining a natural brow shape, though she had a few small tweaks to add that in my opinion helped refined my brows even better.
She started first by tinting the finer hair on my brows. My brows are naturally already very dark so the dye was left on for only a short period of time since very little could be absorbed. After she waxed all the loose and fine hairs around my brows, helping define the shape further and tweezed any stray hairs. She also trimmed any extra hairs that stuck out too much. If you’re curious you can find a list of all available service on the Myer website.
Afterwards she taught me how to more naturally fill in my brows. I applied High Brow directly under my by brow to make the edge of my brow appear much sharper whilst highlighting my brow bone, and then I used Gimme Brow to lightly fill in and extend my brows. The formula is very dry, so I love that my brows don’t feel wet or crispy after.
The end result was beautiful clean cut brows! I think from a distance it would be difficult to see the difference between my brows before and after, but up close, the change is incredible. I’m a little annoyed that out of all the photos we took, I didn’t manage to get a before and after!
None the less, if you have the cash and time, I highly recommend the Benefit Browbar treatment, it’s a great treat 🙂 Even if only once to get an outsiders opinion on your DIY job!
