If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you’ll know that Lancome’s Hypnose formula is my favourite mascara ever. Whilst it does have a tendency to dry up faster than I’d like, I can’t deny the amazing results it gives my lashes π So when Lancome released a “Doll Lashes” version, I knew I had to give it a shot.
My general impression is that as a standalone mascara, this is great. As you can see from the photos below, two coats gives you thick lush looking lashes. The end result is very similar to that of the traditional Hypnose formula, the main difference I’ve found is the fact that it did take two coats to achieve this. Whereas traditionally, I’d only need one thick coat to get the same effect.
So if you’re someone who has always loved the Hypnose formula, but thought it was just a bit overkill, this would be perfect. But if you loved Hypnose just the way it is, stick to the original formula.
Comparison aside, I noticed no real difference between the original and this formula. Besides the shape of the brush (which does make it easier to coat lower lashes and small lashes in the inner corner), lasting power is the same. Lasted all day, no smudging nor flaking throughout the day. It’s no surprise Hypnose is my most loved mascara π

I really love this mascara. It makes my lashes look so full and lovely. Unfortunately it can have a tendency to smudge to on me. I took a small sample size with me on holidays and it was perfect in a hot and humid environment but as soon as i got back here to australia it started to smudge when i wore it to work. I just cannot work out why its doing it here and not in Japan! I really love the fragrance also.

Oh wow, I’ve been hearing from a lot of different people saying this mascara smudged on them! I wonder why it didn’t on me, makes me wonder what causes a mascara to smudge to begin with π

Oooh. I might have to grab the original formula as a reward for finishing up my current stash…

I’m not sure what they mean by “Doll lashes?” Is it supposed to be a more natural look? Less natural?
Celina says
I have -no- idea, I never bother reading the description when I buy stuff ._.

This was the first makeup item I’ve ever returned – for a mascara that apparently took 7 years to develop, the absolute *least* it should do, in my opinion, is not smudge on me. I’m glad this is working for you and others, but I’ll have to continue on my HG mascara search π

That’s so sad to hear!! I’m glad you managed to return it and get your money back, given how $$ this mascara is!
